Elmer Sands Beach

Breathtaking Elmer Beach, also known as Elmer Sands Beach, or Middleton-on-Sea Beach is a hidden gem, discreetly located along the stunning West Sussex coastline.

This relatively unknown beach is nestled in between Felpham Beach and Climping Beach. What makes Elmer fantastically unique are its rock islands, created by semi-circular sea defences.

Did you know? Elmer boasts one of the most robust coastal defence systems in Sussex. The groynes are known as ‘offshore breakwaters’, which create an island effect along this part of the South East coast. As a result, they create large rock pool areas.

Things To Do at Elmer Sands

Unlike other beaches in the area, Elmer doesn’t feature its own accessible promenade, however, there is a picturesque footpath which trails along the beach. When the tide is out, a large expanse of sand is exposed, making it an incredibly scenic walking route.

A popular walking route is starting off from Felpham Beach and heading eastwards towards Climping.

North of Elmer Beach is a large and private residential area, part of the village of Middleton-on-Sea, which is surrounded by agricultural fields. If you’re travelling by car, the nearest place to park is either at Climping Beach or down one of the residential streets in Elmer, which aren’t part of the private estate.

Want a more active break by the beach? Paddleboards can be hired from us at the Beachcroft Hotel. We’re located on the west side of Felpham Beach. If you adore sea swimming, we run open water swimming group sessions throughout the year.
